Plot
Black Adam returns to Earth as a meteor that crashes into a hillside at night.
The film cuts to young Billy Batson, who is alone in Fawcett City’s rundown slum. Later, it is revealed that Billy was an orphan who had been abandoned by his foster parents. Clark Kent, who is writing an article on Billy’s circumstances, takes him to a diner. Black Adam appears and attacks Billy, declaring his intention to kill him before the Wizard can reach him. Clark distracts Adam and allows him to escape while he transforms into Superman. Black Adam chases Billy down the streets, but Superman intervenes to stop him. Although they appear to be evenly matched at first, Superman’s vulnerability for magic gives Adam an advantage.
Billy manages to get into the subway, where he is rescued by a homeless man that he unsuccessfully attempted to rescue from a mugging. Black Adam confronts Billy on the tracks. However, Billy is apparently run over and killed by a train. He wakes up to discover he is in a subway car, which takes him to a huge cave. The Wizard Shazam tells Billy that he is the next Chosen One. The Wizard tells him that Black Adam was his champion 5000 centuries ago. However, Adam had misused his power to his own gain and corrupted his gift. The Wizard banished him across the universe, but he has returned to seek revenge against the Wizard and his champion. In an effort to atone for his mistake in creating Black Adam, the Wizard grants his power to Billy. He asks Billy to call his name if he requires assistance. Billy is able to escape the cave that’s collapsing, and he can go outside.
Billy confronts Adam and says “SHAZAM!” to transform himself into an adult, powerful version of himself, with lightning-like speed, endurance, flight, and superhuman strength. In the same way, the transformation is reversed. Superman and Billy join forces to defeat Black Adam in the sky. Black Adam realizes that he cannot defeat them both and destroys the dam that threatens to flood the city. Superman diverts floodwaters, but Adam takes a motorist hostage and demands that he surrender in his mortal form. Billy agrees, but Adam takes the hostage and throws him into the air before he can rescue her. Superman rescues the woman and attacks Adam to free him. This allows Billy to quickly transform into Shazam and defeat Black Adam. Shazam is about killing him, but Superman convinces them that he’s more than just a murderer. Adam says that only death can stop him. The homeless man appears and claims to be Tawky Tawny, the boy’s guardian angel. Tawky, a Tiger-like Tawky, threatens to have the Wizard banish Adam further. Adam shouts “SHAZAM”, refusing to be exiled again. He then reverts to Teth-Adam. His mortal body, which has been Black Adam for millennia, now cannot withstand the ravages of time, and he becomes dust. Tawny confirmed that the Wizard was indeed dead before he left.
A few days later, Billy is still reading Clark’s article and encounters bullies. He smiles at them, and they try to intimidate him.
