Movie Details
Plot
Superman protects Metropolis while Webscoe, a Metropolis-based conglomerate, hires Gus Gorman as a computer programmer. Gus steals money from his employer by salami slicing. This brings him to the notice of Ross Webster, CEO. Gus is a potential financial helper for Webster. Webster, his sister Vera and Webster’s girlfriend Lorelei conspire to blackmail Gus.
Clark Kent convinces Perry White at the Daily Planet to allow him and Jimmy Olsen to visit Smallville for Clark’s high school reunion. Meanwhile, Clark’s unrequited love Lois Lane departs for a Bermuda vacation. As Superman, Kent puts out a flame in a chemical plant that contains beltric acid. This produces corrosive gas when it is superheated.
Clark is reunited with Lana Lang, a childhood friend and a divorcee, who has a son named Ricky. Brad Wilson, her ex-boyfriend and former bully, harasses her at the reunion. Superman saves Ricky while visiting Lana.
Webster is furious at Colombia’s refusal of him to do business. He orders Gus to command Vulcan (an American weather satellite) to create a tornado that would destroy Colombia’s coffee crops. This will allow Webster to control the market. Gus goes to Smallville to reprogram the satellite using a Webscoe subsidiary. Superman stops Vulcan from causing a terrible storm and saves the harvest. Webster instructs Gus to use his computer skills to create Kryptonite. Gus uses Vulcan’s technology to find and analyze Kryptonite’s debris. After looking at his pack of cigarettes, Gus realizes that one of the elements in Kryptonite was not known. He substitutes tar for it.
Lana convinces Superman that he will appear at Ricky’s birthday party. But Smallville transforms it into a town celebration. Gus and Vera disguise themselves as Army officers to give Superman the flawed Kryptonite. Superman is selfish and tries to get Lana. He commits small-minded vandalism, such as straightening and blowing out Olympic Flame.
Gus asks Webster for help in building the world’s most advanced supercomputer. The CEO agrees if Gus causes an energy crisis by moving all oil tankers to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Lorelei seduces Superman and convinces him to break the double hull. This causes an oil spillage. They retreat to the Grand Canyon’s supercomputer location.
Superman experiences a nervous breakdown, and he splits into two people: the dark, immoral Superman and the Clark, a moral compass, gentle and meek Clark. He defeats his evil twin. Superman regains his sanity and repairs the damage he did. Superman meets Webster, Vera and Lorelei after defeating Gus’s supercomputer’s missiles. The computer recognizes his weakness and attacks him with pure Kryptonite radiation.
Gus is terrified by the prospect of being remembered as “the man who killed Superman” and destroys the Kryptonite radiation. Superman escapes, but Gus makes the computer self-aware and defends itself against Gus’s attempts at disabling it. Vera is transformed into a cyborg and attacks her brother and Lorelei. Superman returns with beltric, which the supercomputer considers safe. The acid becomes volatile due to the computer’s intense heat, which causes it to be destroyed. Superman delivers Webster and Vera before dropping Gus at a coal mine. He then recommends Gus to the company to become a computer programmer.
After Lana moves to Metropolis, Clark visits Lana as Superman. Clark is attacked by Brad, but Clark defeats him. Lois Lane is surprised by Lana’s new role as Perry White’s secretary. She returns from vacation with an article on corruption in Bermuda and a new respect for Clark. Superman repairs the Leaning Tower of Pisa before lunching with Lana. He then flies into the sunrise to continue his adventures.
